The Power of Advertising

Honda - Power of Dreams

Just had to say a little something about Honda’s new Power of Dreams advert.

It is brilliant!

Shot in New Zealand & Barcelona, the two minute spot features a guy riding/driving a range of Honda vehicles, right from the 50′s Monkey Bike, through the Super Cub C100, ATV (Quad), S600, Goldwing, 60′s Isle of Man TT Racer, S2000, NSX, Fireblade, a 1963 Formula One car, modern F1 car, 225hp Powerboat and finally onto a hot air balloon.

The ad is the latest in the company’s ‘Image Up’ campaign which has also produced the ‘Cog’ ad for the new Accord and the ‘Hate Something-Change Something’ ad for their new Diesel engine earlier in 2005.

Keep a look out for the next ad, which should appear in January-February when the new sexy Civic arrives here in the UK.

If anyone wants the PoD ad I have a 30mb high-quality version I can send them (just drop a note in the comments ;-) ).

Oh, and in case you’re wondering – the song on the ad is called ‘The Impossible Dream’ by Andy Williams (download the MP3).

View the advert : Click here for the full spot | Click here for main PoD site.

Concepts

Posted on October 30, 2005, by , under Cars, Technology, World/Web News.

Nissan GT-R ProtoI’m not normally that interested in the goings on of Nissan, but their new GT-R Proto looks stunning. Take a look at the concept cars new site for pics and videos: GT-R Proto.

Although it may not quite look exactly like the concept by the time the EU lawmakers have messed around with it, it does give a good indication as to what the new Skyline should look like in 2007.

Also, whilst on the subject of concepts, Audi recently showed off their new TT Shooting-Brake concept which gives styling hints towards the next TT (2007-08).

I think they are making a HUGE mistake with this. They’ve obviously not quite grasped what they have / have had with the TT. It’s a modern design classic. Sadly though sales have been falling for a while and they want to update it to boost those sales again. But, they haven’t really figured out WHY sales have fallen though.

Audi TT Shooting Brake conceptI’ll give you a clue – how many do you see on the roads today? Stacks of them I bet; and when you see one, do you still say ‘Oh an Audi TT’. No, neither do I.

Here’s the thing Audi… “They are too common”.

That’s why they aren’t selling. Everybody has one. It comes down to what I call the ‘Fawlty Towers‘ effect.

In 1975, John Cleese made a comedy show for the BBC set in a hotel. He made 6 episodes. These proved to be hugely popular during the 4 years that it took him to write the second series, where he again made 6 superb shows.

When he’d finished he said he definitely wouldn’t make any more. A wise move, because 30 years on, it’s one of the most popular sitcoms ever made – right round the world. I still watch it today, and I still laugh at it – even though I know what’s going to happen, and can recite a lot of the dialogue.

And here’s the best bit… there are only twelve shows. 12. Ever.

Of course, the Shooting Brake is only a concept… but even so, the original TT shouldn’t be messed with. Plus the fact it looks like a reject BMW Z4.

They should retire the model in 2006 – and let her grow old gracefully as 8 years is a good innings.

HR-V 'Pull-Back'Yes I’m a big kid. I know… but I couldn’t resist purchasing this ‘pull-back’ toy of my car, basically because it’s the only toy ever made that’s based on the HR-V (click the image to enlarge it).

It’s got one hell of a motor in it as it goes for miles on a full ‘pull’!

New badge

Posted on October 1, 2005, by , under Cars, Honda, Personal.

HondaWell, I finally got round to putting my new (£13!) Honda ‘H’ badge on the bonnet of my car, after some utter moron ripped the original off.

Why bother nicking it? They can’t really sell it on as new because the only way to take it off is to break the locating pins that hold it onto the bonnet.

All Honda badges attach in this way. If you ever see a silver ‘H’ badge for sale somewhere without the pins on the back – it’s probably stolen.

The only people that have benefited from this ****** stealing my stuff is my local Honda dealer.
