Glass Platform Android Phone

Detail have surfaced on a new type of Android-based business deskphone called the Glass Platform. The current prototype sports an 8″ touch screen.

Touted implementations / situations for the desk-based Google Android platform include:

  • Law Offices
  • Doctors Offices
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels and Hospitality
  • Government Offices
  • Estate Agents
  • Telemarketing

So, businesses that use phones then really!

If it does ever come into production, its the kind of phone (looks wise and price wise) that the CEO would get first, before the workforce on the shop floor would ever see it. As with all tech though, the more popular it becomes the cheaper it becomes, and the cheaper it becomes the more it filters down the chain.

Andoid-Based Desktop PhoneOne thing that I’d love to see is an ability to hook it up with your desktop computer/laptop and seamlessly use the mouse from that to access the deskphone functions as well, maybe whilst making a call (in a similar vein to what Synergy does by allowing you to use multiple computers and have only one keyboard/mouse) so you can edit the calendar quicker for example to make an appointment or to take down an important phone number or even postcode for a meeting.

Will it ever appear? Will it be good/slick/quick/stable? Or just another one of those ‘cool-in-theory’ ideas that pops up now and again and never really comes to fruition? I hope it does, but as always add your comments please. :-)
