Cube World

Cube World - Click to enlargeI have a brand new toy to play with… and it’s called Cube World.

CW consists of 2 cubes (per pack) that house a little stick man. Each man has a different personality, a bit like those Tamagotchi units from a few years ago. Nothing special about that you might think, but these guys are a little different because the cubes they live in can be joined together… to form a bigger environment for them to live in. (Click the image above to enlarge it).

Magnets on the top, bottom and sides of each cube have magnets on… and when attached to another cube, they both talk to each other, a little buzzer noise goes off to alert the stick men, one of which then passes into the other cube to interact with the other man.

The ‘interaction’ normally consists of a fight… or a hug… or some other random act. When in their own boxes they keep themselves busy and entertained. One (Scoop – Orange cube) has a dog, and the other (Slim – Purple cube) has a stick.

They pace around, spin round, jump, high-five, fart, dance, levitate, scratch themselves, and can even be sick if you shake the cube around as each one has a motion sensor inside. In fact, if you hold the cube flat, then turn it 90 degrees the man tumbles over as you spin it, bouncing off the walls. Once he has picked himself up his head will throb and he’ll shake his fist at you (which normally spurs you on to do it again to him!). Even the items in each cube can swap and interact, as Slim can throw his stick for Scoop’s dog to catch. Once the dog catches the stick he walks through the cubes and takes it back to Slim. Brilliant.

The other thing great thing built into them is a game mode, which involves the item they have in the cube with them (the dog and the stick in the two I have). Once in game mode you control the stick man – with Scoop you have to keep the ball away from the dog to score a point and with Slim you have to use the stick to pull yourself up over a monster that crawls along the floor).

These things are great fun and well worth getting – there are 4 different ones to collect (Dodger and Whip are the other two – red and yellow cubes) and 16 cubes can be connected together which all give unique animations and moves the more you add. Rumour has it that if you stack 4 or more cubes on top of each other the stick men will perform a bungee jump right through the cubes! Wicked.

They are available from Firebox.com
